Wisdom and knowledge are interrelated. Knowledge is information acquired, the information you know and it is the information at your disposal. While wisdom is the correct application of knowledge, or wisdom is the correct application of the information acquired. Knowledge and wisdom work hand in hand. Wisdom acts on knowledge so wisdom is based upon knowledge. Knowledge is to ‘know’, wisdom is to ‘know how’. If you don’t know, then you don’t have the ‘know how’. God says in Hosea, ‘My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.’ If you have no knowledge about something, then you cannot handle that thing. It is when you have knowledge about something that you are in a better position to handle the thing.
According to the Bible, when you know the truth, that truth you know shall set you free. The truth you know, you can do something about it, that is wisdom while the truth you do not know, there is nothing you can do about that truth because you are ignorant of it. It is what you know that you can apply. What you don’t know you cannot apply.
When you know and you understand very well, then you can apply correctly. The level to which you understand what you know will determine the level of your application which is the link between knowledge, understanding and wisdom. When you understand something very well, then you can apply that thing very well. Take for example a group of students, they were taught the same thing in the class, heard the same information and yet in the examination, they score differently because they had different understanding. The one that has very good understanding will score very high, the one with little understanding will score little or fail. Wisdom is the right application for knowledge. Wisdom is knowing the right thing to do at any given point in time. It is knowing the right thing to do at the right time. You may know the right thing to do, but if you do it at the wrong time, it will not be very effective so it will not yield the desired result. When you do the right thing at the very right time, it becomes effective because you will not only you get results, good results but encouraging results.
